Cabinet agrees to increase ward-level street change funding to £50k per year per councillor, a key step to address the road safety emergency
Today, Birmingham City Council's cabinet agreed an increase in funding for a renamed 'Healthy Streets Ward Fund'. This was previously known as 'ETNF'.
We are pleased to see one of our ten practical steps to address the city’s road safety emergency being implemented so soon into the new administration.
We thank the politicians and officers involved for enabling these changes.
Giving councillors more funding for meaningful changes on streets across the city, making them safer and healthier, is precisely what Clean Air Zone funding should be used for.
With the deeply disappointing news emerging that the region’s five-year transport funding allocates very limited budgets for these types of changes, it’s now time for councillors to ensure their interventions count and focus on delivering the greatest possible improvements towards safer streets.
